Spectral properties of diesel fuel droplets
نویسندگان
چکیده
Absorption spectra of several types of diesel fuel are studied experimentally. Index of refraction of these fuels is calculated using subtractive Kramers–Krönig analysis. The ageing process of fuels is simulated by prolonged boiling. Radiative properties of diesel fuel droplets are calculated using the Mie theory and a simplified approach, based on approximations of absorption and scattering efficiency factors. It is pointed out that the accuracy of the simplified approach is sufficient for practical applications in the visible and infrared ranges, for various types of diesel fuel, and for droplet radii in the range from 5 to 50 mm. The monodisperse approximation is shown to be applicable for the analysis of infrared radiative properties of realistic polydisperse diesel fuel sprays.q 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. In CI engines, the evaporation rate of fuel on various hot surfaces, including the combustion chamber, has a significant effect on deposit formation and accumulation, the exhaust emissions of PM and NOx, and their efficiency. Therefore, the evaporation of liquid fuel droplets impinging on hot surfaces has become an important subject of interest to engine designers, manufacturers, and researcher...
متن کاملInvestigation ofthe Effects of Oxygenate and Nitrate Component Additives on Physico-Chemical Properties and Exhaust Emission of Diesel Fuel
This study evaluates the effect of additives on diesel and of additive-ethanol-diesel fuel blends on the density, viscosity, cetane number, flash point, boiling point, distillationand performance in engine tests. An additive is used to keep the blends homogenous and stable, and an ignition improver, which can enhance cetane number in ethanol-diesel fuel blends. The formulations were carried out ...
متن کاملA Novel Diesel Fuel Additive to Improve Fuel Properties and to Reduce Emissions
Global air pollution is a serious threat caused by excessive use of fossil fuels for transportation. Despite the fact that diesel fuel is a big environmental pollutant as it contains different hydrocarbons, sulphur and crude oil residues, it is yet regarded as a highly critical fuel due to its wide applications. Nowadays, biodiesel as a renewable additive is blended with diesel fuel to achie...

Wetcompression of a fuel aerosol has beenproposed as ameans of creating gas-phasemixtures of involatile diesel-representative fuels andoxidizer + diluent gases for rapid compressionmachine (RCM)experiments. The use of high concentration aerosols (e.g., 0.1 mLfuel/Lgas, 1 10 droplets/Lgas for stoichiometric fuel loading at ambient conditions) can result in droplet–droplet interactions which lead...
